websites created for mobile use

To gain some ideas for our initial designs i went away and looked at some mobile website to get an idea on layout, how other websites dealt with navigation. I couldn't find any other art galleries that were offering this facility so most of my inspiration is coming from other sectors. This gives us the opportunity to offer something unique to the Towner Gallery.

Looking at the Nikelab website, in terms of layout they use a simple tab format which highlights  the tab for the page you are viewing.  I am quite fond of a tab format as it is fairly common and therefore would be familiar to most users

This one from CBS uses tabs across the top but  also icons to re-emphasise to the user which button to press to access a certain page of information. I also like the addition of the search bar, it doesnt take up that much space and content is usually scrollable anyway.

I like this one particularly for the tabs at the top of the menu, they are not too heavy but  it is instantly clear that they are used to navigate through the website. Not too heavy with information for the home page so the user isn't overwhelmed either.
