Hi Jon!
Thanks again for your understanding and patienceJ Now, Hels and I have quickly gone through the website and have come up with a rough brief for the mobile version of the site (however, I confess neither of us have had a chance to do any research into what other public galleries are including on their mobile optimised sites, so I wonder if there might be a bit of an initial research element to the project to check we’re going along the right lines compared to the rest of the sector?).
Key elements:
- Exhibitions – only current & upcoming (not past) – these could potentially be amalagamated into one list
- Events– potentially based on date rather than category? (though this is not how our website is currently set up so I don’t know if this would be feasible) – we may choose not to include the artist network events here as this is a much smaller audience
- About ustop level page
- Visitor information(to include Getting to Towner and Accessibility)
- Contact(but without Towner staff!)
- Community – v. brief overview (a few paragraphs), linking back to main site for further information
- Join us – as above (unless we have online purchasing set up in near future, in which case can link to purchasing site)
- Mailing list– linking directly to Campaign Monitor as per main website
Let me know if you think that sounds appropriate & doable!
As the mobile version will be quite pared down in terms of info, we wanted to make sure people would be given an immediate option to enter the main site instead of the mobile version, and that there would be a link to revert to the main site on each page?
Also just wanted to give you a heads up that I’m considering playing about a little with the top level menu options, event categories etc, and hope that this won’t create problems for you (if so let me know)… We also have an online retail section coming and I’d like to set up a media section for audio-visual content, but I suspect these are going to be post-Christmas developments so probably not worth even thinking about now!
Finally let me know when you need increased access to the site – I can set you up with a password from my end and you can see if you can access everything you need from there, if not we’ll speak to The Web Kitchen.
Thanks again Jon!
Gilly
After reading this email we need to start researching other mobile websites for visual inspiration before we begin any designing.
