On Friday, the four of us got together to discuss our designs, we discussed, layout, navigation and aesthetics. The plan was to choose a few variations of design to send to the Towner, or to take elements from each others designs and create something completely different...
In the initial stages of the meeting we listed the pro's and cons of each design to help us narrow down our choices.
Below are the designs that we have narrowed it down to so far...
GridView (2x4)
Pros:
- Looks nice
- Looks organised
- Buttons are obvious
- Big buttons
- Caters for people with "larger" fingers
Cons:
- Awkward to navigate with a d-pad?
- Could not display on every page (only home page)
List View (8 rows)
Pros:
- Easy to navigate with d-pad
- Loads quickly?
- Displays well on small screens
Cons:
- Could not display on every page (only home page)
- Could maybe display on every page (very cramped)
- Doesn't look nice on large res screens
Grid View (3x3)
Pros:
- Looks nice
- Looks organised
- Buttons are obvious
- Big buttons
- Caters for people with "larger" fingers
Cons:
- Display badly on small screens?
- Awkward to navigate with a d-pad?
- Could not display on every page (only home page)
Top Tabs (4 x merged pages)
Pros:
- On every page
- Easy to navigate
Cons:
- Wouldn't display well on small / non touch screen mobiles
- Small hit areas if wording reduced
- Lots of scrolling to access correct info on merged pages
Further to these designs we looked at the possibility of having the 'About Us' page as the homepage and possibly include a drop down menu for the user to select which would bring up an option of pages to navigate to...
Drop Down Menu
Pros:
- Displays on every page
- More room for info / design
- Easy to navigate
- About us info on home page
Cons:
- Surprise drop down menus can be annoying
- How to close drop down menu?
Based on our discussions we have noted down a number of things that need to be changed and/or must be included in the designs we will send to the Towner.
