Testing on phone emulators - something to consider

As well as concentrating on usability testing it might be a good idea to try out our website on some mobile phone emulators so we can further work out what our website would look like on all types of different phones that we havent got results for.

I found a handy website.

Mobile phone emulators

"emulators can be used instead to allow you to simulate testing on the real device or browser. The benefits of this approach are many-fold:
  • No data browsing charges are incurred, as all browsing is performed via your standard Web connection
  • Quicker access to devices – starting an emulator is faster than switching sim cards and rebooting devices
  • Provides access to a potentially large number of devices/browsers – the number of devices you can use is only limited by hard disk space and the number of emulators you can find
  • Inexpensive – many emulators are available for free"
I tried testing out our website on Opera Mini 6.5 (web browser). It turned out to be very unpredictable, some times it would show up fine, other times like i have demonstrated in my sketchbook...

This is the only one i could find that looked like a safe 'free to download' emulator
