We are pleased with the positive feedback to our first batch of designs that we sent out. In the email below, our client has suggested which versions of each design she prefers and what amendments she would like us to make. Based on this feedback i can now set out a plan for the lesson on 4/11/11

Hi team!
These are looking really good!
Here are my thoughts:
About us
– Preference for version 1
– I like the addition of the ‘Find out more’ icon, so let’s keep this! (but could we just we change ‘Find out more’ to ‘Find out more’, and similary, ‘About Us’ to ‘About us’ – just general Towner convention)
– Last paragraph – could we change “the various other opportunities it provides” to “the various other opportunities we provide”?
– Is there scope to link to other pages of the mobile site within text? – e.g. the word ‘events’ could link to events section
Join us – looks great, like the image (but again could we change ‘Join Us’ to ‘Join us’?)
Visitor information
– Agree that having everything on one page involves too much scrolling, I also think the alternative version looks really clear and neat so let’s go with this option, but with some slight changes…
– Because the majority of visitors will only be interested in opening hours and address and will want this at a glance, I think we should put the opening hours followed by “Admission is free” and the address (which could be written all on one line i.e. just “Devonshire Park, College Road, Eastbourne BN21 4JJ”) directly under the page title ‘Visitor information’ (above ‘What are you looking for?’ and the submenu below)
– This would then negate the need for an ‘Opening hours’ submenu option (note our address should still appear again on ‘Getting to Towner’ page)
– For the ‘Gallery extras’ option, could we change the title to simply ‘Facilities’, and I wonder if we could try a different icon for the shop (possibly a shopping bag?)
Community page
– Looks really good, happy to use the ‘Find out more’ icon here as well
– (Is the text colour slightly different on this page? – this looks like a lighter grey, we probably couldn’t go quite as light as this for accessibility reasons)
Thanks for the comments and explanation re images / icons and speed – I think in general I’m happy to go with an image per page and the occasional icon as I think these do add to the look and feel, so happy to sacrifice a little bit of speed for this!
There were just a couple of other things that occurred to me:
1. You might have noticed on the main site that I’ve been using <br/> to introduce artificial line breaks where I feel the text width is getting too large – this obviously looks strange when the same text appears on the mobile site (e.g. the first paragraph on ‘About us’ – there’s a line break between South and East). Not sure there’s much we can do about this other than go through and take them out on the mobile site but just something to be aware of!
2. At Christmas time we are closed for a few extra days so, at this time of year only, a few extra lines have to be added to the opening times information – I don’t think this would sit very well on the main ‘Visitor information’ page as would result in too much text at the top, so I wonder if you could have a think about where something like this might sit best (on the main website, I would actually put a little headline text box above the Facebook feed on our homepage to make it really obvious when we’re closed on days when we would normally be open – obviously the home page on the mobile site doesn’t really lend itself to such ‘special announcements’, can you think where else this might go?).
Thanks again, really pleased with how things are progressing!
Gilly
